Although you may be a US citizen, it can sometimes be hard to open a US bank account if you live in another country. Most US banks will only accept an account application that includes a Social Security Number (SSN) and proof of address – impossible for non-residents. If you eventually do find a bank that will open an account for you, it can be a long, drawn-out process, which leaves you with no immediate access to your money.
